The Antiumbrella autonomously modifies its shape and transforms the space under it throughout the year in this concept design for an intervention in a stepwell in India.
In times of maximum drought, the water in the container evaporates and the structure opens, offering a greater shade for visitors. When it rains, the water collected falls into the central barrel moving it to the lowest level of the well and closing the structure, thus completing a cycle. Seen from the distance, the structure also serves as an indicator of drought and monsoon seasons, as a rain-watch. In rainy season the Antiumbrella will look like a tall pole and it will start to open as the drought period approaches.
Developed in a 2005 design class in Madrid Architecture School with professors Aranguren + Gallegos.
